Communication between teams and investment in the latest tech have been key to the success of Natures Way Foods, according to Selsey factory manager Paul Hiscock.

In this exclusive video interview, Hiscock discusses the steps the company takes to make sure all of the teams at the company, from the shop floor all the way to management, are constantly communicating the challenges that face each of their departments.

“Key for Selsey is the teamwork here,” Hiscock explained. “Everybody is integrated – every department. We have a senior site meeting every day, where every department is in there.”

He described Natures Way’s practice of holding tiered meetings throughout the week that “really get the detail from the shop floor up to the senior team as well”.

Increasing capacity through investment

Hiscock also discussed recent investment in the factory’s washing and bagging processes to increase capacity.

“We had ten baggers, four washers before and we could probably bag about 250,000 [bags] a day, but now we’ve invested in another nine baggers and another two washers, which allows me to pack up to 500,000 units a day,” he explained.

“As kit and technology move forward, innovation moves forward. Some of the kit we have now, we can do things we couldn’t necessarily do with some of our older kit. Our older kit is still very reliable and as efficient as our new kit, but they’ve been made easier and more user-friendly.”

Meanwhile, an East Anglian ingredients supplier has confirmed proposals to increase its production facilities with the development of a new factory.
