We take a look at two new tech developments designed to increase safety in food factories.

System aids safe cleaning

A new, resource-saving cleaning system that can be used by 30 users simultaneously has been introduced by Swedish firm Lagafors.

The Central Cleaning System – which comprises the Variable Chemical Centre II, as well as various types of water pump systems – can reduce a company’s footprint by 35% when compared to most cleaning systems, the firm said.

The central components deliver correct pressure, flow and chemical concentration at all times, ensuring safe handling and dosage accuracy, it added.

Lagafors has also launched a new process control tool, the LogTrace System.

Alarm-linked fire curtain

A textile fire curtain that can be connected to an on-site fire alarm system has been unveiled by Hörmann UK.

Designed to provide food firms with increased protection, the FlexFire Protection Curtain is equipped with an intelligent Fire & Security Association-FlexControl hold-open device, meaning the curtain would close if smoke developed.

When combined with optical smoke detectors that monitor the door area, the hold-open device is compliant with EN 14637 requirements.

Tested for fire loads of up to 120 minutes, the curtain comes with narrow side guides, making it inconspicuous in its surroundings.
