Meat firm resubmits chicken processing plant plans
If successful, the submission would see a new two-storey site built next door to its existing operation on the Five Crosses Industrial Estate in Minera. The semi-automated site would allow the business to cut and cold-store chicken to be sent out to the wholesale market.
In the planning statement, a representative said: “Armon Ltd is a well-established quality supplier of meat products ad has gradually grown in size over the years. This application seeks to provide additional accommodation adjacent to the current business premises by developing a vacant site previously owned by the Gas Utility Company.
‘Add diversity’
“The proposals will enable Armon to expand its business and add diversity to its product line with the introduction of a chicken processing facility.”
The original planning document was rejected in August, after council officers raised concerns over the safety of the proposed new road access to the site. The presence of “indiscriminate parking” near the factory limited the visibility or space for the manoeuvre of vehicles exiting the site.
New site access
In a bid to tackle these issues, the new planning document proposed a new driveway and access so that outbound vehicles can leave the site without having to access the inbound route. The formation of the new road would also enable the creation of additional parking.
Discussions with the Highways Department have led to the proposal to construct a new off-road parking bay in a bid to mitigate the “indiscriminate parking” by the public around the site.
Meanwhile, last month, The Welsh Whisky Company announced plans to open a £5m distillery and create new jobs in Llandudno, North Wales with support from the Welsh Government.
