Wrexham-based doner meat producer Armon is looking to enter the poultry market with the construction of a chicken processing facility.

The business submitted a planning application for chicken processing plant with Wrexham County Borough Council. In the documents filed, the proposed new site would measure 779m2, made up of offices and an operations area. It is also expected to create six new jobs in the business and would operate 24 hours a day.

It said that the aim of the new facility is to “create a flexible production facility with accommodation for ancillary support staff”. The site is currently vacant and had previously been owned by the Gas Utility Company.

The documents submitted by Armon identified that access to and from the site might be “problematic” and has therefore proposed a new driveway and access that would replace the current one. A Wrexham Council planning officer also raised this as something that might need to be addressed before permission can be given. No date for a decision has been given yet.

Armon is a doner meat processing company that was established in 1990 following the business operating take away restaurants in the North West and Wales. It prides itself on being the founder of the first kebab take away in both regions in the 1980s. It currently specialises in lamb and beef products for the doner kebab market.

Earlier this month, Maelor Foods received planning permission to expand its poultry processing facility at Cross Lanes, also in Wrexham. The expansion will allow the business to process one million birds a week and create an additional 80 jobs in the area.
