Northern Ireland-based Carnbrooke Meats has been given approval for major expansion plans.

Approved by Lisburn & Castlereagh City Council, the expansion will see a former car showroom converted into a processing facility with butchers shop and café alongside it.

According to the planning documents, when completed, it will bring the Carnbrooke Meats workforce to around 60 people within three years as well as increase production by 120%.

Potential locations

A nearby industrial estate and Lisburn City Centre were examined by the Council’s planning team as potential alternatives. However, given the retail and processing mix, the site on the Ballynahinch Road was deemed to be the best possible location.

Carnbooke Meats currently employs around 30 staff and specialises in beef, pork, lamb and poultry products as well as cooked and ready to eat meals. It already operates out of a processing facility and shop located in Dromara.

The business stated that the current facilities used were beginning to “limit the potential growth of the company”.

Recently Pecan Deluxe Candy completed a £3m investment to bring all of its production in-house while Burts Potato Chips is to create 60 jobs through the expansion of its Leicester facility.
