Food processor Mondelēz International is reported to be in advanced talks to purchase assets of US business Campbell Soup.

According to a report by Bloomberg, Mondelēz is looking to agree final terms for the acquisition of Australian-based Arnott’s Biscuits and the Danish Kelsen Group, with a rumoured price tag of $2.5bn for the two businesses.

Both Mondelēz and Campbell have declined to comment on the reported negotiations. In August 2018, Campbell announced plans to offload its international and fresh food business in an effort to boost profitability.

In the UK, Mondelēz has four main sites – Bournville, Uxbridge, Sheffield and Reading.

In March, confectionery businesses Bristows of Devon and Crawford & Tilly were brought together under one entity by owner Paramount Retail Group as the Great British Confectionery Group.

Earlier in the same month, 2 Sisters Food Group completed the sale of its Green Isle and Donegal Catch to a group led by former Largo Foods chief executive Maurice Hickey.
