Bizerba cuts to the chase on energy efficiency

Thanks to a variety of new developments, Bizerba said it had been able to “significantly reduce”​ the electricity consumption of its devices over the past few years. As a result, it claimed its current slicers needed only roughly 50% of the energy that conventional models consumed.

To demonstrate this, the firm calculated that one of its latest 80 watts an hour devices, running eight hours a day, can save £11,647 annually compared with standard cutters.

Innovation in several areas had led to this type of saving, it claimed. Firstly, a load-dependent control system means the motor only uses the power required for the necessary output. An item that is easy to slice does not need full motor power and the full torque does not have to be used. Energy consumption, therefore, remains low.

Furthermore, in idling mode, it has calculated that its machines use around 45% less energy than conventional machines, and in stand-by mode power consumption is effectively zero without even a residual current.

Finally, the company said resource-saving machines heated up less, so ventilation holes at the bottom were no longer necessary. With the surface fully closed, liquids, residues of product to be sliced and dust could no longer reach the interior of the device, it claimed. Also, heat is not dissipated into the environment or into products in the storage area, reducing energy costs and ensuring a higher degree of hygiene, Bizerba added.

The company has recently added the VSI T Industrial slicer to its range. Using Bizerba’s Emotion technology, the model features an integrated tendency control to ensure the targeted weight is reached, even with naturally grown products. This allows the user to avoid overfilling same weight packages and increases efficiency, said the company.
