Macphie appoints new commercial director

Wells joins the Scottish firm from speciality baking business Aryzta, where he has served as commercial director for the past four years.

Commenting on his appointment, Wells said: “For me, the company has so much potential and I see a real opportunity to develop and grow the brand and make a difference in this outstanding family business.”​

Wells has held several senior roles during his 30 years in the food and drink industry, working with a number of internationally recognised brands, including Nestlé, Danone and McCormick.

‘Undoubted expertise’​

Chief executive Andy Stapley welcomed Wells to the company, adding: “In a challenging industry environment, his strong background in the food industry and undoubted expertise make him the ideal candidate to lead our commercial unit.”​

News of Wells’ appointment comes as Macphie reported an increase in turnover in its most recent annual results, shaking off a “challenging backdrop”. ​

Speaking earlier this month, Stapley said: “The sector operates with tight margins, as we continue to produce premium products in a highly competitive industry, which has seen some well-publicised challenges in the UK casual dining sector.”​

Meanwhile, international snacks business Pladis has appointed Salman Amin​​ as its global chief executive, replacing Cem Karakaş, who stepped down in September, citing family and health reasons.
