Ingredients supplier Petrow Food Group has streamlined its peanut-free nut-butter filling capability after installing a line customised for flexibility, featuring automated pick-and-place tray-packing for jars.

The supplier of dried fruit, nuts and seeds to industry has invested £1.8m in processing and packaging equipment for nut butters at its Haverhill site in Suffolk. The kit is suitable for processing nut butters into a range of pack types for both retail and foodservice.

While not disclosing suppliers, commercial director Fatma Akalin-McGee told Food Manufacture: “The line features mixing tanks, which allow the adding of different ingredients and flavours, plus a mill, a jar filling line, a sachet and tub-filling line, an inline metal detector and a capper machine.”

She added: “The new pick-and-place robot has helped take expected volumes, in terms of jars and tubs, to over a tonne an hour.”
