Tetra Pak graduate scheme grows opportunities

Growing new talent can create opportunities for both staff and the company, according to a member of processing and packaging giant Tetra Pak’s graduate programme.

In this exclusive video interview, filmed at Tetra Pak’s facility in Modena, Italy, automation engineer Daniele Caltabiano – who takes care of coding and testing packaging machinery at the site – talks about his decision to join Tetra Pak’s Young Talent Programme and the lessons food and drink firms can take away by following the packaging firm’s example.  

“I saw the opportunity of being part of this programme,” ​said Caltabiano. “I’ve learnt how to work with different people who are in different fields of expertise from mine, working with something that was really different. It was very important for me to go outside my comfort zone.

Creating a link

“I’ve had the opportunity to travel a lot, which is a great for people who have just started working. It gives you the opportunity to link you to all the other people in this very big company.”

Commenting on the Future Talent Programme, Caltabiano said that the return on the initial investment in to new starters is much higher, a lesson that could be learned by all employers in the food and drink industry.

“They​ [Tetra Pak] want to grow you, both as a person and as a professional,”​ he added. “They really want you to learn by doing things, not just by studying.

“If you’re a company hiring new people and you invest time and money on it, I think at the end of the day it’s worth it, because you can create new opportunities for both you and the ‘future talent’.
