A Welsh pâté manufacturer has announced plans to expand its range of pâtés and vegan dishes and install a new product development kitchen following a £400,000 finance package from HSBC UK.

Patchwork Pâté, a family-run business based in Denbighshire, has used the funding to purchase the equipment needed to introduce vegetarian, vegan and reduced-calorie pâtés to its collection, alongside five bespoke Welsh meat pâtés.

The eight new product lines have enabled the business, which currently supplies to local pubs and restaurants, to enter the retail market for the first time.

The business, established in 1982, has also used £100,000 of the funding to upgrade its premises with a 1,000 sq ft product development kitchen. Through this innovation, clients will be able to visit the kitchen to see products being developed, helping the business to form closer relationships with customers.

Two new full-time chefs have been hired to work in the kitchen, joining the 32 existing members of staff.

Rufus Carter, managing director at Patchwork Pâté, said: “Our new product lines have enabled us to diversify as a business, open up new revenue streams and enter the retail market for the first time. With the support of our relationship manager at HSBC UK, William Jones, we’ve built an exciting element to the business, which meets growing demand for innovative pâté products.”

Martin Lyons, HSBC UK’s area director for North Wales, said: “We’re always keen to support family-run businesses with a creative outlook. It’s fantastic that Patchwork Pâté has been able to expand its business and produce new ranges. We’re delighted to have supported Rufus and the team in this new venture.”
