Scottish food ingredients manufacturer Macphie has appointed Andy Stapley as its new chief executive, effective immediately.

Stapley joins the company from Samworth Brothers-owned chilled desserts manufacturer Kensey Foods, where he has served as managing director (MD) since July last year.

He has more than 15 years’ board-level experience with a number of food manufacturing  companies, including Marine Harvest, Young’s Seafood and 2 Sisters Food Group.

Stapley succeeds Andy Underwood, who was the first MD from outside the Macphie family on his appointment in April 2014.

Commenting on his appointment, Stapley said: “I’m hugely excited about joining Macphie, an ambitious and respected business that is committed to growth.

‘Opportunities that lie ahead’

“Our people are exceptional and we have outstanding products and great customers. Macphie has the potential to match its ambition and I’m tremendously optimistic about the opportunities that lie ahead.”

Chairman Alastair Macphie welcomed Stapley into the business and praised him for his industry experience, talent and ability, which made him “the ideal person to lead the company as we look to grow our strong position in markets both here and overseas”.

Established in 1928, Macphie is an independent food ingredients manufacturer that supplies to bakers, dessert-makers and the foodservice sector.

The company employs more than 300 workers across three sites: its headquarters in Glenbervie in Aberdeenshire; its facility in Tannochside in North Lanarkshire; and its Midlands Centre of Excellence outside Coventry.

Meanwhile, last week, KP Snacks appointed Kevin McNair to the role of marketing director, effective from 29 October.
