Accident at Authentic Food Company’s Dundalk factory
Emergency services were called to the site on the Finnabair Industrial Estate shortly after 4pm on Monday (9 July) after a member of staff was drawn into machinery when his overalls were caught.
Once freed by members of Louth County Council’s Fire and Rescue Service, the man was reportedly taken to Our Lady of Lourdes hospital in Drogheda. It was reported that the man’s arm may have been injured in the accident.
A spokesman for The Authentic Food Company told Food Manufacture: “There was an accident on the Dundalk site yesterday afternoon resulting in the injury of one of our employees.
‘Cooperating with the HSA’
“The company is cooperating with the HSA in the investigation of this incident and will be making no further comment at this time.”
A spokesman from the HSA told Food Manufacture that the organisation had been notified of the incident and that an investigation was underway.
Meanwhile, last month, The Authentic Food Company announced plans to introduce a vegetarian burger that cooks and tastes like meat into UK stores, in partnership with US brand Beyond Meat.
The burger was said to contain more protein than a traditional beef burger, but is made entirely from plants, without any genetically modified organisms, soy or gluten.
