A Yorkshire brewery is expecting a massive sales boost after winning contracts with Tesco and Morrisons to stock its gluten-free beer Against The Grain.

The brewer, which is based in Wold Newton near Driffield, said the agreements would enable it to stock the product in 400 Morrisons stores across the UK and 30 Tesco stores in Yorkshire.

Against The Grain is made from lager and maize malts, hops and yeast, with 4.5% alcohol by volume (ABV). Tesco and Morrisons are stocking four packs of 500ml bottles for £6.

Best-selling

“We’re delighted that one of our best-selling gluten-free beers is now available in Morrisons and Tesco and is selling very well,” said brewery manager Alex Balchin.

“We have seen big growth in sales of our gluten-free beers as the number of people avoiding gluten for dietary or medical reasons has risen.”

Wold Top, which was founded in 2003 by arable farmers Tom and Gill Mellor, boasts an extensive range of more than 20 beers. These include Wold Top Bitter, Wold Gold and Scarborough Fair IPA, which it sells online.
