Taiwan food supplier Taipec has recalled packs of its Yuki & Love jelly, as one of the ingredients may present a choking hazard.

Its mango and litchi flavoured jelly products contain konjac powder, a type of gelatin used in Asian cuisine, which is not permitted as an ingredient in jelly confectionery products in the European Union (EU), due to the potential choking hazard.

Yuki & Love

The products being recalled are the 200g Yuki & Love Mango Jelly with best-before dates of July 30 2018, November 7 2018 and January 17 2019 and the Yuki & Love Litchi Jelly 200g with best-before dates of September 3 2018 and January 17 2019.

No other Taipec products were known to be affected.

The company has apologised for any inconvenience caused and has written to affected customers to advise them of the issue. It has also published the product recall notice on its website, explaining to customers why the products are being recalled and what to do if they have bought the product.

Konjac powder

In a statement, Taipec said: “Taipec Limited are recalling packs of Yuki & Love jelly confectionery in both litchi and mango flavours due to them containing konjac powder as an ingredient which, while not harmful, is not permitted as an ingredient in confectionery products [in the EU] as it may present a choking hazard. Consumers are advised not to consume the product due to this risk.”

Taipec was formed as a sister company to Landmarq Technologies, the Taiwan PC company. The company sources traditional Taiwanese products for UK and European consumers.
