Seafood firm creates 20 jobs at former Young’s factory
The project by fish processor Seafood Sourcing is located in part of Young’s former operation in Fraserburgh harbour, Aberdeenshire.
The company planned to expand with the aim of supplying European Markets with Scottish whitefish.
An investment of more than £600,000 has been made at the site, provided by the EC’s European Maritime and Fisheries Fund, including £76,000 from the Scottish government.
Processing and warehousing roles
Director Derek Hutchins told FoodManufacture.co.uk that the new jobs would be split between processing and warehousing roles at the site.
The site planned to be operational by the end of January or early February, said Hutchins.
Commenting on the planned reopening of the site, Scotland’s rural economy secretary Fergus Ewing said: “This funding will transform a site that’s been vacant for some time into a fantastic new processing factory creating valuable jobs for the north east.
“This type of investment in our onshore sector is crucial for the growth of our seafood industry. It will enable the company to add value to the fish landed in Scotland and target a range of new markets across the world, supporting Scotland’s ambition to double the value of the food and drink industry.”

Young’s reduced operations at the site in 2015, cutting hundreds of jobs as it focused on hot and cold smoked ready-to-eat products at the facility.
The restructure followed the company’s loss of a £100M salmon processing contract with Sainsbury to Marine Harvest, which saw the retailer source its salmon from the seafood firm’s Rosyth facility.
