Winning a Food Manufacture Excellence Award (FMEA) has grown the reputation and recognition for healthy snacks firm Nim’s Fruit Crisps, according to boss Nimisha Raja.

In this exclusive video interview, Nim’s founder and ceo Raja told FoodManufacture.co.uk how her business has benefitted since winning the Small and medium sized enterprise of the year award at last year’s FMEAs.

“Being recognised in the industry is really important to me,” said Raja. “Retailers were there at the awards and have contacted us [Nim’s] since, so it’s been fantastic for business.”

Asked to give advice to food and drink manufacturers undecided about entering the FMEAs, Raja encouraged them to take the plunge.

Take the plunge

“I can imagine small companies being put off by the fact there are lots of large organisations there [at the awards]. But I’m proof of it.

“It doesn’t matter how big or small you are. I think if you’ve the right criteria, enter the awards and enjoy the experience.”

Nim’s Fruit Crisps achievements were celebrated in front of hundreds of food and drink manufacturing sector guests at a glittering gala ceremony hosted by star TV presenter Carol Smillie last November.

Raja’s massive commitment to making the business succeed impressed the FMEA’s independent judging panel – led by Paul Wilkinson, chair of National Skills Academy for Food and Drink.

‘Relatively small-scale firm with big ambitions’

“This is relatively small-scale firm with big ambitions,” said one judge. “It’s good to see a focus on children’s health snacks. Also the owner put their whole heart, soul and life – even selling the family home – to make this business thrive.”

Since winning an FMEA, Nim’s has gone on to secure its first supermarket listing, supplying 60 Co-op stores across the south east of England.

Time is running out to book your place at this year’s FMEAs at the Hilton Park Lane in London on November 1. To find out more, and book your tickets, see the box below.
