Lidl to create 500 jobs at new distribution centre
The 70,049m2 regional distribution centre (RDC) will be the 15th built by the discount supermarket in the UK and will be its biggest in the country.
Lidl’s head of warehouse expansion Adrienne Howells said: “We are very excited about our proposed regional distribution centre in Peterborough.
“Our expansion across the UK is progressing rapidly and it’s important we have the right supply chain infrastructure to support this. Peterborough is ideally located and we’re pleased to be bringing more jobs to the local community”
‘Supply chain infrastructure’
Earlier this year, the retailer opened its 11th new warehouse in Wednesbury in the West Midlands and in January announced the start of construction at its Doncaster RDC.
In August, Lidl revealed plans to relocate its Scottish distribution site to larger premises in the Eurocentral industrial estate in Lanarkshire, creating 360 new jobs.
The Eurocentral site supports the supermarket’s 92 stores in Scotland, as well as create more local job opportunities and allow for further expansion and investment.
Further expansion
A further warehouse in Bolton is also in the pipeline, along with the relocation of Lidl’s Weston-Super-Mare distribution centre to Avonmouth in Bristol.
Established in the UK in 1994, Lidl has 650 stores and 10 distribution centres in England, Scotland and Wales. It has more than 20,000 employees.
