Purple chocolate pieces offer stand out potential

A range of vitamin-packed purple-coloured chocolate pieces, designed to stand out in cereal mixtures, muesli bars and ice cream, is now available from Herza Schokolade.

The six-strong range comprises white chocolate that has been coloured purple by fruit and vegetable extracts.

Elderberries, aronia berries and wild blueberries are the fruit extracts, while powder extracted from beetroot and black carrots make up the vegetable extracts.

A sixth shade of purple is obtained from an extract of the hibiscus plant.

The chocolate pieces come in big leaf and prism shapes, or as chopped pieces. Customised shapes are also available.

Each of the fruit and vegetable varieties used are rich in vitamins, minerals and secondary plant substances, Herza says.

Aronia berries contain several vitamins, including A, C and E, along with numerous minerals and trace elements, such as calcium, magnesium, potassium, zinc and iron.

Beetroot’s anti-inflammatory, antioxidative and detoxifying qualities, meanwhile, are based partly on its colourants betanin and vulgaxanthin.
