A high-protein chocolate-flavoured ready-to-mix (RTM) drink, developed to support muscle and bone health in the over 50s, was unveiled at Vitafoods Europe earlier this month.

The low-fat drink from Glanbia Nutritionals contains Prolibra, a whey-derived ingredient for maintained muscle mass, and oat flour, a source of carbohydrates and fibre to improve digestive health and energy levels.

Bone health support comes from TruCal, a natural source of calcium and minerals; and MenaQ7, claimed to be the only clinically researched vitamin K2 (as MK-7).

Targeted use of calcium

According to the research, the vitamin allows the targeted use of calcium in the body by inhibiting its deposit in the arterial walls.

Visitors to the show will also be able to taste Glanbia’s new chocolate caramel high-protein bar.

The bar features modified milk protein isolate BarPro, which creates a novel texture while minimising bar hardening.

Another prototype to view is a plant-based ‘superfood’ infusion for sports nutrition and RTM applications.

Sports nutrition crossover

Plant Warrior-Superfood Infusion builds on the ever-growing crossover between sports nutrition and everyday consumer products.

It comes with AminoBlast, a blend of branched-chain amino acids that boost energy yield and muscle function; and ChoiceChia Black MP, processed whole black chia seeds that offer alpha-linolenic acid omega-3, fibre, protein and calcium.

Vitafoods Europe took place in Geneva from May 9–11.
