Palm oil body reveals conservation boost

An increase in conservation areas, support to smallholders, and the phasing out of the herbicide paraquat were the highlights of the annual impact report from the Roundtable on Sustainable Palm Oil (RSPO).
The total conservation area of forest and indigenous communities set aside within RSPO-certified concessions amounted to 157,115 hectares as of June 30 2016, an increase of 9% from the previous reporting period.
Phasing out paraquat
Meanwhile, at least 40 RSPO growers have phased out paraquat, and the RSPO certified 109,415 smallholders in the last reporting period.
