Evidence from recent multiple studies suggested that milk and dairy foods might play a neutral or protective role in long-term heart health, claimed Dr Anne Mullen, director of nutrition at The Dairy Council.
‘Nutrient array’ of dairy
The “nutrient array” of dairy is key to understanding its relationship with certain long-term health conditions, Mullen told delegates at the Food Matters Live show in London last November.
“It is often thought that milk and dairy play a part in cardiovascular disease and type-2 diabetes – but studies have shown otherwise,” she said.
“Sat-fat is actually an umbrella term to describe a family of individual saturated fatty acids. When we appreciate their true complexity, a different picture emerges,” Mullen added.
