Boparan confirms Bernard Matthews Sale
Turkey giant Bernard Matthews was sold to Ranjit Singh Boparan last month (September 20), in a pre-pack administration deal. The deal was likely to safe-guard the 2,000 jobs at the business.
Boparan Holdings, the owner of 2 Sisters, confirmed the purchase of the business by Boparan Private Office, a private investment vehicle of Ranjit Singh Boparan.
The Boparan Private Office said it intended build on the 66-year heritage of the business and help to deliver Christmas 2016, which would have been at risk without its intervention.
“We have a proven track-record in turning around businesses and we aim to make Bernard Matthews great again,” said the Boparan Private Office.
Rutland Partners – previous owner of Bernard Matthews – said that while it was disappointed that the business had continued to struggle under its ownership, it was pleased that it has now been acquired by Ranjit Boparan.
Under Boparan, Bernard Matthews would have access to “a large, UK poultry group and that all the jobs have been preserved,” said Rutland.
Meanwhile, industry insiders told FoodManufacture.co.uk the deal could potentially leave hundreds of businesses out of pocket.
