Meat firms get automation advice

The key steps meat companies need to take to achieve a smart factory in line with ‘Industry 4.0’ automation approaches were the focus of open days for the meat sector held in Germany last month.

As well a series of presentations from industry experts from Fraunhofer IAO, Multivac and CSB-System, the event also included tours of modern meat processors that had invested in becoming smart meat factories.

The focus of the ‘Meat Business Days’ was on software, automation and image processing techniques to make the digital transformation a successful process.

With business models, value-added chains, processes and consumer behaviour all becoming increasingly digitally connected, more efficient and more transparent, the event examined what investments in digitalisation and automation were necessary to exploit the potential of the intelligent factory and the benefits these would bring to the sector.
