Food and farming minister George Eustice opened a new £10M extension to Signature Flatbread’s factory in Dunstable last month (July 4).

This is expected to create 200 local jobs by 2018, boosting the company’s current 680-strong workforce.

Signature Flatbreads supplies flatbreads such as tortilla wraps, pitta and naan bread to all the UK’s major retailers and foodservice operators.

“Britain’s food and drink sector is a huge source of pride for people across the country and a top choice for investors around the world,” said Eustice at the launch.

“Companies such as Signature Flatbreads put the sector in the global spotlight and show the world the quality and innovation our £100bn food industry can offer.

‘Investment opportunities’

“We will do all we can to help food and drink producers across the UK to explore potential investment opportunities to ensure this vibrant sector continues to thrive.”

Signature Flatbreads is under the control of joint chief executives and third generation bakers William and Charles Eid, who are responsible for production, innovation and marketing. “This investment not only consolidates our position as the market leader in flatbreads, but also shows our commitment to improving quality and productivity in a competitive marketplace,” said Charles Eid.

The new production line, with a second to be built in the next two years, will ensure that the company maintains its position in the flat breads sector. Increasing capacity and providing the opportunity to develop new flavour combinations, continue the company’s expansion and deliver new products to the ever changing bread and bakery market, added Eid.
