Vacuum system handles cereals
Bakery equipment maker Baker Perkins has included a vacuum conveying system from Ingredient Batching Systems for handling expanded cereals and extruded pellets in kit supplied to a customer in eastern Europe.

The system consists of a vacuum unit that takes expanded cereal and extruded pellet for flaking, direct from an extruder cutter head. An outlet hopper and entry junction is installed below the extruder cutter cage which directs product into the vacuum conveying line. As one of the products contains chocolate, a heated air inlet on top of the cutter box allows filtered and heated air to be drawn into the conveying line.

From the cutter, product is drawn through a conveying line under negative pressure to one of two destinations the expanded cereal to a toaster and the extruded pellet to a conditioner.

Two cyclone receivers, one at the toaster the other at the conditioner, continuously discharge product to the relevant process.
