Tooth-friendly concepts for children's confectionery have been developed by the ingredients firm Beneo.

Bubblegum and chocolate products made using the new concepts have undergone successful scientific testing with plaque pH telemetry technology, claims Beneo.

“Both products are tooth-friendly and fully digestible due to the inclusion of Beneo’s carbohydrate Palatinose, which completely replaces sucrose in the formulation,” says the firm.

Claims

Health claims approvals from the European Food Safety Authority and the US’s Food and Drug Administration have been awarded to Beneo’s Palatinose product, which has non-cariogenic benefits, it adds.

“With 83% of consumers globally paying high attention to oral health, products made with the tooth-friendly carbohydrate Palatinose are set to become increasingly popular,” a Beneo spokeswoman claims.

Tooth-friendly

The concepts offer the only tooth-friendly, low glycaemic and fully digestible carbohydrate and could provide confectionery firms with an alternative to standard sugar-free formulations in children’s sweets, the spokeswoman adds.

However, 60% of children worldwide suffer from dental cavities, which showed the urgent need for confectioners to offer innovative solutions for sweet-toothed youngsters, says manager Katja Reichenbach.
