Who’s next?
From the moment it was revealed Philips would leave Morrisons in the spring there has been widespread speculation about his successor.
Bookmakers Ladbrokes have even opened odds on his replacement.
The favourite, according to the bookmakers, is Aldi boss Matthew Barnes at 4/1. Barnes has only been in sole charge of the discounter for little over two months after joint-md Roman Heini stood down in November.
Former Tesco bosses John Browett and David Potts are just behind Barnes in the running at 5/1.
Other notable names in Ladbrokes’ odds include former Sainsbury boss Justin King, current Co-operative and former Morrisons group finance director Richard Pennycook, Asda boss and IGD president Andy Clarke and Greggs ceo Roger Whiteside – all rated at 25/1.
Former boss Sir Ken Morrison is 250/1 to take charge of the retailer.
Television presenters Ant & Dec were also given odds of 1000/1.
