A Scottish fish and chip shop has launched a collection of calorific deep-fried Christmas puddings for the festive season.

Dinners at Reivers Fish Bar in Duns, Berwickshire, will be able to tuck into a 950-calorie battered yule log, nearly four times as much as the traditional desert.

The Scottish chippie is also selling deep-fried mince pies and Christmas puddings.

Rona Johnston, who runs the Reivers Fish Bar, said although it seemed a weird combination, the puddings were actually very tasty, according to media reports.

‘Going down fabulously’

“All the Christmas treats are going down fabulously,” she said. “We serve each pudding with Scottish cream. They make everything very tasty.”

The mince pies sell at three for £1, the Christmas pudding is £1.50 and the yule log is £2.50.

Johnston said she would try to deep-fry most things, provided it did not ruin the frying oil.

“People often come in asking me to fry the strangest things,” she said. “If it’s possible, we’ll give it a go.”

Previously Reivers has deep-fried Oreo cookies and Cadbury Creme Eggs.
