More than 800 job cuts planned
News about 2 Sisters Food Group and its previously owned Avana Bakeries site continued to prove popular with readers of FoodManufacture.co.uk just a month later.
A whopping 800 job cuts were proposed at 2SFG’s Gunstones Bakeries and Avana Bakeries – now owned by Utopia Foods.
The Avana Bakeries site in Newport, Wales started a consultation on 390 job losses and 2SFG revealed 422 jobs would go as part of restructuring at the Gunstones Bakeries site at Dronfield in Derbyshire.
BFAWU general secretary Ronnie Draper said: “They are saying that’s what they need to restructure the business. We are putting other proposals on the table. They want to reduce the wage bill by an enormous amount.”
Meanwhile, the revelation that it was the loss of a Marks & Spencer contract that put jobs at risk at Avana Bakeries also proved popular with readers.
