Portugal-based microalgae producer Allma has entered the food, beverage and dietary supplement market with its Chlorella powder.

Chlorella, a single-cell green algae, is being marketed by Allma as a vegetable-derived source of protein and is said to provide consumers with all nine essential amino acids. It is also claimed to contain significant levels of omega-3 and 6 oils, as well as complex carbohydrates.

Allma, which can produce 100t of its chlorella a year, says it will target the functional food and beverage market. It claims chlorella has detoxification and immune system-boosting properties.
