Dairy industry under review by Scottish politician
A chair was appointed to lead the inaugural review into the Dairy Industry Code of Best Practice this month.
Alex Fergusson, Member of the Scottish Parliament for Galloway and West Dumfries, was unanimously approved by the three organisations involved in the establishment of the code.
The three organisations are Dairy UK, the National Farmers’ Union (NFU) and NFU Scotland.
The review was now underway, scheduled to be completed by the spring and would constructively address the issues that have emerged over the last year, Fergusson claimed.
Mansel Raymond, chairman of the NFU dairy board, said: “The NFU is committed to the improvement of commercial relations between farmers and milk buyers, through the development of better milk supply contracts.
“The industry has fantastic opportunities for growth ahead of it and the code helps create an environment of trust and collaboration to achieve this.”
