Dairy UK makes appointments ahead of sustainability challenges
Dairy UK appointed Jo Stewart as its new environment manager ahead of a “new raft of sustainability challenges” it is predicting will impact on the supply chain this year.
Stewart joins Dairy UK having previously worked with the Climate Action Programme and Carbon Clear.
The European-led review of Best Available Techniques Reference Documents, will address the treatment and processing of milk, animal and vegetable materials within food production. It could have a significant impact on costs, warned Dairy UK chief executive Judith Bryans.
“Other reviews are taking place in Europe, such as the [European] Commission’s climate change and energy package and reform of the EU emissions trading systems,” Bryans added.
“All of these issues suggest it will be a milestone year for sustainability in the dairy sector. As such, Dairy UK will be dedicating additional resources to work in this area.”
Meanwhile, as part of the restructuring, Dairy UK’s current UK policy director Peter Dawson will now oversee sustainability at the organisation.
