Helen Munday, director of scientific and regulatory affairs at The Coca-Cola Company, said the industry could be doing a lot more to attract the right technical people, despite various organisations making strides in the right direction.
Munday said: “There is a lot more the food industry can do to make sure that the really good people have their hearts and minds attracted to this industry, which I don’t think we are doing as well as we should do. It’s excellent that we have more schemes to train engineers and food scientists. The work at the Food and Drink Federation and various institutes is going in the right direction, but there is more that can be done.”
“We are such a rounded industry in terms of people, whether it’s IT or engineering or food scientists, there is a whole pool of skills that we need to draw from.”
