Business Leaders' Forum
Anna Rosier
Organix md Anna Rosier accused the industry of getting away with what it could to save money at FoodManufacture’s Business Leaders’ Forum, last week.
She pointed to two instances of this over the past year. These were the horsemeat scandal, which she claimed the industry had failed to react to, and the amount of sugar in food.
“If it [the horsemeat scandal] happened again tomorrow it would have a huge impact on the industry. I think it’s the same with our responsibility in terms of why we put sugar in food. Do you do it because it’s cheap? That creates a real misunderstanding in terms of what the real price of food is, or do you do it because it actually has a benefit?”
Rosier added that the industry needed to look into cases where sugar is unnecessarily going into products and take responsibility for making sure the practice is stopped.
