Human cheeses on offer in Dublin
Bacteria from human belly buttons and the artists’ tears were used to create cheeses as part of an exhibition at the Science Gallery in Dublin.
The ‘Selfmade’ installation, part of the ‘Grow Your Own … Life After Nature’ exhibition, also featured cheeses made from bacteria extracted from the feet and mouths of artists, writers and cheese makers.
US scientist Christina Agapakis and Norwegian scent expert Sissel Tolaas were responsible for the 11 creations.
Agapakis said: “This is cheese not for eating, but for thinking about. I wanted bacteria from the mouth and between the toes, that’s where you get a lot of diversity and a lot of cheese specific organisms.”
