United Biscuits shines through to win environmental award
United Biscuits shone through in the most hotly contested category, Environmental initiative, for raising the environmental bar, according to the judges of the Food Manufacturing Excellence Awards.
Not only had the company embraced green issues at its heart, it got employee ownership of its environmental programme, the judges said.
From a 35% cut in carbon emissions to zero waste to landfill; from 20M fewer road miles to 100% sustainable palm oil use, “the results have been just massive”, they added.
“While showing some great environmental results, United Biscuits has continued to raise the environmental bar.”
The other candidates in the category were: Bernard Matthews, Coca-Cola Enterprises and Iglo Foods Group.
