2 Sisters gets £153k bill for breaking food safety laws
2 Sisters Food Group was ordered to pay £153,500, in October, for breaking food safety laws covering the shelf-life of its products.
The food manufacturer was fined £112,500 for breaking food safety laws and told to pay £41,000 in costs, after it admitted three offences at Ipswich Crown Court.
The investigation found that food was given a 14-day shelf life, four days longer than the 10 recommended by the Food Standards Agency.
The fine reflected the firm’s failure to act upon the remedial action notices – issued to the firm following local authority inspections at its chicken roasting plant in Haughley Park, Stowmarket in 2011.
The fine also took into consideration its lack of a food safety management safety system and failure to provide records of production when they were requested.
A spokesman for the firm said it “deeply regretted” the situation and “should have done more” to respond to inspectors’ remedial advice.
