‘Stunning and devastating’ plans to axe 200 jobs
2 Sisters Food Group’s plans to axe 200 jobs at its Coupar Angus chicken processing plant in Perth and Kinross were described as “stunning” and “absolutely devastating” by Unite the union.
Unite official, Dougie Maguire, told BBC News on November 21: “There has been no consultation with management or even a suggestion that cuts were in the pipeline. It’s a stunning development and particularly so soon after the Vion buyout.”
2 Sisters has begun a 45-day consultation with the 658 employees at the site. The food manufacturer acquired the site, in March, from Vion.
In a statement, the firm said, the cuts were part of a “rescue plan for Scotland” and that the situation in there was “unsustainable”.
