Colonel Sanders
Harland David Sanders set up his first roadside motel and café in Corbin, Kentucky in 1930, after he was honourably discharged from the US Army.
As his restaurant grew so did his fame, in 1935 state governor Ruby Laffoon commissioned Sanders as Kentucky colonel for outstanding achievement in the community.
In the last 20 years of his life, Sanders wasn’t seen in public without his trademark moustache, goatee and impeccable white suit.
Following his death in 1980, his legend has lived on on the logo of the company he created.
In 2006 KFC created a 87,000 square foot logo in the Mojave desert, so big it could be viewed from space.
KFC now has over 800 restaurants in the UK alone.
