TV Apprentice whisks Tesco and Waitrose into his food business
Nick Holzherr, who was a reject from BBC TV show The Apprentice, officially launched his ‘Whisk’ food app business on January 7, which integrated the online delivery systems of Tesco and Waitrose.
The app, which analyses online recipes and cross-references them with online supermarket inventories to enable the user to order the ingredients for home delivery, was rejected as a business plan by Lord Sugar in the 2012 TV series The Apprentice.
Despite this, Holzherr secured more than £500,000 from angel investors and venture capitalists and has now integrated the app with the online shopping systems of Tesco and Waitrose.
A third major supermarket is already in the technical integration process and Holzherr aimed to have all five multiple supermarkets on board “within months”.
Holzherr told FoodManufacture.co.uk at the time: “We want to remove as much hassle as possible involved in buying ingredients. We’re about integrating the places to go for recipes with the places consumers go to shop. It’s not about price comparison; it’s about convenience, which is the biggest driver of grocery purchase.”
He added that the biggest challenge had been “data crunching” and building a system that was easy to understand.
