Suffolk fire fighters were called to the Birds Eye factory in Lowestoft this morning (October 8).

Suffolk Fire and Rescue told “We were called to an automatic fire alarm at the Birds Eye factory on Whapload Road in Lowestoft. Crews found a fire in one of the fryers and requested an additional fire engine.”

Extinguished quickly

Two appliances attended the fire which was extinguished quickly. A foam blanket was used to cover the fryer.

A spokesman for Birds Eye said: “We can confirm a small fire broke out at our Lowestoft site this morning shortly after 5am. It was a minor incident that was quickly contained and no one was hurt. We will investigate the cause fully but the site is now back to normal and fully operational.”
