Articles about halal meat labelling featured twice in our list of the seven most popular articles in September.
The first article, published at the beginning of the month, reported that Birmingham Council Trading Standards officials, backed by police, had raided halal wholesalers in the city and seized hundreds of chickens, computer equipment and documents. They were investigating claims that meat had been labeled falsely as halal.
Later in the month, a spokesman for a halal certifying body welcomed the raids. He told FoodManufacture.co.uk that bogus halal meat was “a huge problem”.
