S&A to expand on the Continent

Perween Warsi, founder and chief executive of the Derby-based family-owned firm, is working on S&A's next five year plan, which includes further undisclosed investment at the company's UK facility and expansion of its customer base both at home and abroad.
Warsi reported that she was considering setting up manufacturing facilities on the Continent and didn't rule out an acquisition or a joint venture (jv) to support her expansion plans, with facilities in France one possibility.
"We are not quite at that stage where we know exactly what country we are going to [expand within]; but Europe obviously," said Warsi. "If I can justify the volume and the expenditure it could be [that we set up manufacturing facilities overseas]. It could be that we acquire a company. It doesn't have to be a jv."
S&A Foods has been supplying French frozen food retailer Picard for about four years and has further export ambitions. "We have got plans to expand in other parts of the world as well," said Warsi. "There are a lot of things in the pipeline which are going to happen and I am very excited about it as well."
