FSA launches leak enquiry as board member suspended
The Food Standards Agency (FSA) is investigating how a letter to its Scottish Food Advisory Committee (SFAC) chair and board member informing him of his suspension was leaked to the press.

The FSA said in a statement that Dr David Cameron (pictured) had been suspended from both roles after an allegation of gross misconduct was made against him.

“The allegation is subject to an ongoing enquiry, and until that is complete the FSA will not make any further comment,” the agency added.

Aberdeen paper The Press & Journal obtained a copy of a letter from FSA chair Jeff Rooker to Cameron, informing him about his suspension and the process being followed.

The paper reported today that Cameron is appealing against the suspension, and has already defended himself at a special hearing on July 28.

Cameron, who is based in Aberdeen, is current chair of NHS Grampian, and md of food safety and training consultancy Cameron Food Safety, which he founded in 1990.

He was formerly a senior lecturer at the Robert Gordon Institute of Technology (now Robert Gordon University) in Aberdeen.

Cameron was also president of the Royal Environmental Health Institute of Scotland (REHIS) in 1993 and 2004.
