Sandwich firm fined following “uncontrolled mice infestation”
The firm, which pleaded guilty to 12 food hygiene-related offences at Ealing Magistrate’s Court on May 27, was first inspected by the council last July following complaints about rats and excessive rubbish.
During the initial visit, regulatory services officers identified seven food hygiene offences including having dirty floors and dumping hundreds of sandwiches outside the premises. The firm had also failed to train staff in the basics of food hygiene.
When officials conducted a further inspection in September 2009, four additional offences were identified. Councillor Ranjit Dheer said: “It’s shocking that this company was preparing food in such unhygienic conditions.
“I’m pleased the court has recognised the seriousness of the situation and it is clearly reflected in the hefty fine they have meted out. This case should serve as a reminder that we will prosecute individuals and businesses which flout regulations and put people’s health at serious risk.”
