Gist plans for growth in Europe after acquiring G&S chilled sites

Gist has pledged to retain staff at G&S International following its acquisition of the temperature-controlled logistics operator.

The takeover gives Gist a further three temperature-controlled sites in Bellshill, Lanarkshire, Scotland G&S's headquarters Holland and Spain, plus 100 temperature-controlled vehicles.

G&S employs 160 staff, all of whom will be taken on by Gist, along with the business's assets. "This is about growing the business, not about asset-stripping," said Gist business director Andy Hodgkins. "This will also give us increased primary presence in the UK and mainland Europe."

G&S has 40 major customers, with the bulk of its business in temperature-controlled delivery, including fresh produce and chilled perishables.

Gist has 300 customers in the UK alone and more than 1,000 across Europe, including Marks & Spencer, Carlsberg and Dairy Crest. It has 5,000 employees and operates in a wide range of commercial sectors, including grocery, retail, electronics and gas and has 35 European centres.
