Conveyor tightens the downtime belt
Production downtime at United Biscuits (UB) has been reduced, thanks to the installation of a new conveyor belt system.
Conveyor belt manufacturer Ashworth Europe supplied its S-Belt system to UB's Glasgow and Carlisle factories. Both make McVitie's biscuits, including Rich Tea and HobNobs.
UB required a reliable, low maintenance oven belt to minimise production downtime and reduce engineering costs. It was vital that the belt was long-lasting, with high tensile strength and robust tracking performance.
Ronnie Goodwin, engineering manager at McVitie's Glasgow factory, says: "Ashworth's S-Belt is outlasting any previous belt system. Over time, the savings in reduced downtime and lower engineering costs are significant."
The S-Belt is woven from round or flat steel wire with a welded edge. This ensures robust construction and good tracking. A novel weaving method achieves a flat mesh and straight running of the belt.
