Determined to ensure that its laboratory personnel have the safest possible environment when working alone, Reading Scientific Services (RSSL), has invested in a protection service from Connexion2, manufacturer of the Identicom lone worker device.

Science and technology expertise provider RSSL provides its members with an emergency response service 24/7 and 365 days a year. This means that staff often have to work alone at night or at weekends in the laboratory to manage unforeseen product contamination problems.

The firm decided to purchase Connexion2's SoloProtect package for its ease of use, the ability of employees to manage their own safety and the way in which the Identicom lone worker device automatically raises an alarm if it senses that the worker has become incapacitated.

An employee presses an amber alert button to give verbal details of their whereabouts, which notifies SoloProtect's monitoring centre. If the red alert is then pressed, the centre's support staff can discreetly listen in to what is happening and make an assessment as to the level of support required involving the emergency services if necessary.

Should a worker become incapacitated for some reason, the 'man down' function within the Identicom automatically raises a red alert to call for help for the worker.
