Integrated dairy business Milk Link has nearly completed the second phase of a £1.1M investment at its packing plant in Shropshire. The site, which packs 800t of cheese a week, now has the latest robotic palletisation and case packing technology on its cheese slices line.
The programme has improved cost-effectiveness by streamlining line capabilities. The flexible automation solution features 10-minute changeover times between a range of varying product formats.
The second phase has also seen the introduction of the latest online vision technology, which scans the information on each pack as it is produced to ensure all product information is accurate, plus automated online leak detection equipment, and investment in new grating technology, which has increased overall capacity by 50%. Training and staff development has been ongoing to ensure that staff have the skills required to operate the robotic technology.
Milk Link's chief executive Neil Kennedy says: "Reaching the end of phase two of this project marks a milestone in our commitment to being an industry-leading business using state-of-the-art facilities and providing excellent customer service. Our customers will benefit from greater production capacity, even higher service levels and innovative packing solutions."
